SHB Solicitors recently said a fond farewell to one of our solicitors, Clive Cook, who retired earlier this year. As a treasured colleague whose career spanned nearly four decades, here’s Clive’s story.
From Trainee to Partner
On 15th September 1986, Clive joined Harding & Barnett at 14 New Street, Leicester, as a trainee solicitor. Only a year into his training contract and during the summer of 1987, Clive met his future wife, Sally, who came to the firm for work experience. Along with the start of his career in the legal world, this serendipitous encounter also marked the beginning of a new chapter in his personal life too.
After completing his training in September 1988, Clive was offered a position as a litigation solicitor. He handled a range of matters including divorce cases, landlord and tenant disputes, personal injury claims, and civil disputes. Clive’s hard work and commitment led him to a new milestone - on 15th April 1990, he became a partner with the firm.
Company Mergers and Change
Throughout Clive’s career, he has seen the firm transition through several changes. Harding & Barnett first merged with another local firm, Salusbury Solicitors, and then later with Barlow Solicitors. Up until this last merger, Clive had been working at 14 New Street for many years. Once Salusbury Harding & Barlow was formed, he moved to our new office.
From Litigation to Probate
Clive continued to work in civil litigation and then, in 2020, he moved into the probate department. Undertaking matters relating to Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney, and Probate, this chapter took him up until his retirement on 31 March 2024. To celebrate his retirement, we took Clive out for a fun night of food, drinks and games at Roxy Ball Room on Humberstone Gate in Leicester.
A New Chapter Begins…
Fully embracing his retirement, Clive’s adventures have included a celebratory trip to Thailand, marking both his retirement and his 60th birthday. He’s enjoying regular walks in the countryside, more time with his wife, Sally, and plenty of dog walks with their furry companion, Dolly.
Clive has also been busy decorating his home after rewiring work, cycling an impressive 100 miles per week, and he’s recently started playing football! He has also been learning to canoe in the beautiful Welsh countryside.
Clive’s presence is deeply missed, and we wish him and Sally every happiness in this new chapter. We look forward to hearing about his continued adventures.
Thank you, Clive, for being a proud part of our history at Salusbury Harding & Barlow.
